It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles Henry Borton, who left this world on July 27, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on August 24, 1950, in Alma, Michigan, Charles was a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend.

Charles was a devoted bus driver at Vestaburg School, where he lovingly transported generations of students. Known for his talkative and quirky personality, he brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. Charles loved sharing stories and laughter with those around him, leaving a lasting impression on the hearts of those he encountered. He enjoyed fishing in the quiet lakes of Michigan and took great pride in his gardening.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife, LuAnn Borton, and their three sons: Josh (Shannon) Borton, Jeremy (Diane) Borton, and Jason (Jennifer) Borton. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Schrupp. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Charles was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kendra, Shalie, Tabatha, Jaylynne, Cailyn, and Charlotte. Along with 5 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Charles will be held on August 4, 2026, at 11AM at Janowicz Family Funeral Home 9977 Howard City Edmore Rd, Lakeview, MI. A visitation for Charles will take place on August 3, 2026, from 5pm-7pm, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home-Lakeview. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of his life, remembering his love of family, laughter, and the simple joys he cherished. Joseph James Whyte Jr., 91, of Reed City, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He was born August 10, 1934, in Detroit, MI, the son of Joseph James Whyte Sr. and Roxie (Glatfelter) Whyte.

Joe was a self-employed contractor who dedicated his life to the construction industry. Even after his retirement, he continued using his talents to build and improve local churches, a reflection of his unwavering faith and servant’s heart.

A proud veteran, Joe honorably served his country in the United States Army Airborne. Throughout his life, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and riding snowmobiles. A gifted athlete, he excelled in many sports and embraced an active lifestyle.

Joe was a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City, where he faithfully served and was deeply involved in the life of the church. His passion for the Lord guided every aspect of his life. He was a natural leader, a devoted family man, known for being a little stubborn, very frugal, and steadfast in his convictions. Above all, Joe cherished the time he spent with his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. His family finds comfort in knowing that Joe is now rejoicing in the presence of his Savior.

Joe is survived by his wife, Ann Whyte; his children, Joseph (Nancy) Whyte III, George (Beth) Whyte, Samantha (Cam) Shanks, Michael (Kayla) McCreery, and Liz (Skyler) House; brother, Timothy (Karen) Whyte; grandchildren, Jillian Whyte (Miles), Stephanie (Darrell) Putansu, Talley (Michelle) Whyte, Megan (Matthew) Delgado, Chelsea (Wesley) Dennard, Holly Whyte, Joey (Camilla) Whyte, and Courtney Whyte; granddaughter-in-love, Rachel (Jeremy) Smith; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Louise Whyte; sisters, Roxie (Fred) Sinclair, Mary (Russ) Deardorff, and Margaret (Bob) Dawdy; and sister-in-law, Sue Whyte.

A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City. Joe’s family will greet friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. He will be laid to rest at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mecosta.

Vicki Suzanne Morris passed away peacefully in the presence of family on July 25, 2026 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Vicki was born on July 19, 1943 to the late and infamous Warden “Rusty” Rustemeyer and the audacious Launa Hammett. So began a life defined by a spirit of love, family, generosity and compassion that would enrich and inspire all who were fortunate to know her.

Her accomplishments were many. She graduated from Union High School in Grand Rapids in 1962 with honors, where she met the great love of her life and husband of 63 years, Dale Morris. They eloped and were married in Reno, NV on September 28, 1962. After an adventurous year living in San Francisco, Vicki and Dale returned to Michigan with young Dale Jr. in tow in 1963. Vicki worked at the local GM Fisher Body plant to help earn money to attend college. She graduated in 1972, earning her bachelor’s degree in philosophy while raising two young boys. Matthew was born in 1966. Vicki was part of the first women’s graduating class, earning a master’s degree in philosophy from Notre Dame University in 1974. While at Notre Dame, she took Karate lessons with her roommate, Chacha, from Mexico City, earning a brown belt. She followed this up with a law degree from Cooley Law School in Lansing in 1977, declining a full ride scholarship to attend Notre Dame Law to be closer to her family. She went on to open a family law practice championing the rights of women and children in many divorce and custody cases. With a strong pull and talent toward civic duty, she ran and became the first woman elected to the Wyoming City Council in 1983.

In the 1980’s, Vicki and Dale left both their business careers behind for a new life as exotic animal (mostly llamas) ranchers in the mountains of Colorado. In Colorado they adopted and united four young children that were natural siblings. Vicki saw the need for a high level of education and home school for all four kids! In the 1990’s Vicki and the family returned to Michigan, moving to Big Rapids where she would open a family law clinic and spend the rest of her days.

After the tragic loss of the youngest of the 4 adopted siblings, Eric, at 18 years of age, Vicki and Dale adopted their daughter, Destiny, who has been the source of endless pride and joy in her later years. Vicki and Dale have been foster parents to countless children who still to this day call her Mom and whose kids call her Granny.

Vicki will also be remembered for her steadfast and passionate care of our animal friends. She was a lifelong vegetarian on moral grounds long before it was socially acceptable or convenient. Her home has always been open to any and all species in need to the inspiration and annoyance of those who loved her.

She leaves behind nine mostly rescued or adopted dogs and cats who are the last of a very long line of such friendships that she cherished greatly.

Vicki Morris lived a long and happy life in service to the principles of equal rights, justice, integrity, and above all, love. She is sorely missed by all who loved her and came to know her.

She is survived by her husband, Dale; her children: Dale Jr, Matthew (Regina), Robert, Jessica, Jacquie, and Destiny; siblings: John Rustemeyer, Margo Arnold, Thomas Sumner, and many grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her siblings: Rita Jo Perkins and Jennifer Hammett.

As a last act of kindness, Vicki was happy to donate her liver as an organ donor upon her passing to a grateful soul in need. Instead of gifts, donations in honor of Vicki may be sent to the Gift of Life Foundation or the Animal Rescue Coalition of Mecosta County.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes in Big Rapids at 4:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM. The reception will follow immediately after the service until 7:00 PM at Cranker’s Restaurant and Brewery in Big Rapids.

Bonnie Eva Yarhouse beloved, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the Clare Hospital on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the age of 88. Bonnie was born on January 16, 1938 in Clare, to Rex and Marie (Darnell) Lloyd. In 1955, Bonnie graduated from Evart High School and on September 3rd, of that year, she married Vernie A. Yarhouse Jr. at the Methodist Church in Sears, where they made their home and raised their family.

Bonnie was a Title I Teacher’s Aide at Evart Elementary where she cared for, nurtured, and helped educate children over numerous years. When she was younger she enjoyed making crafts, crocheting, and cross stitching. She spent many years raising her flower gardens, visiting antique shops, and making her notorious strawberry jam. Bonnie was often found doing a Sudoku puzzle, and she loved making her Christmas gift baskets for her family.

Bonnie’s greatest joy was spending time doting on her children and grandchildren. The love she gave to everyone and positive outlook on life set a Godly example to those around her.

Her caring and joyful spirit will be missed by the family who survives her, this includes: children, Donald (Eva Spence) Yarhouse and Debra (Paul) Schmidt; sisters, Joyce Hillier and Vonnie (Art) Lloyd; six grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one great grand pup, two great great grandchildren with one on the way and numerous nieces, nephews extended family and friends.

Bonnie was preceded in death by: her husband, Vernie "Pete"; daughter-in-law, Lana Yarhouse; three siblings, Ronald (Connie) VanOrder, Joan (Robert) Goldammer and Donald VanOrder; brother-in-law, Harold Hillier and special friend, Paul Cruikshank.

Kevin Horstman, 64, of Barryton, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born on October 13, 1961, in Lansing, the son of Jerry and Marjorie (Franks) Horstman.

Kevin worked in manufacturing during his early years and was, above all else, a proud family man. He treasured the time he spent with those he loved and found his greatest joy in being surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

An outdoorsman at heart, Kevin enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time in nature. He loved tinkering on vehicles with the boys, always willing to lend a hand or tackle a new project. He also enjoyed playing fetch with the dogs and appreciated the simple moments that made life meaningful.

He is survived by his children, Christina (Steven) Riley, Leon Horstman, and Kevin Horstman Jr. (Breanna); his grandchildren, Levi and Kevin; along with extended family members and many friends who will miss him dearly.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Neva Mae Metcalf, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2026, in Fort Myers, Florida, at the age of 99.

Neva was born on May 21, 1927, in Big Rapids, Michigan, to Gerald and Elizabeth Davenport.

She will be lovingly remembered for her wonderful cooking, especially her famous cinnamon rolls, and the beautiful, crocheted afghans she made for her family. She enjoyed playing cards and games, watching game shows, and trying her luck at the slot machines. Some of her happiest times were spent at Six Lakes, where many treasured family memories were made. She loved fishing and was known for making the best fried fish, a family favorite whether it was served for dinner or even breakfast.

Neva is survived by her sister, Sharon Green of Lake City, Michigan; her daughters, Marie White of Fort Myers, Florida, and Peggy Rex of Venice, Florida; her son, Robert Metcalf of Lakeview, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever cherish the love, laughter, and memories she shared with them.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Metcalf, in 1990, her daughter Cynthia Freeman, her brother Richard Davenport, and sisters, Irene Hurst, Marion Metcalf, Virginia Ford, Jackie Watkin and Dorothy Ciulis.

A funeral service for Neva will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Edmore, Michigan beginning at 11:00 AM. Family will welcome and greet guests at 10:00 AM until the time of service. Neva will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes, Michigan immediately following the funeral service. Darrel "David" Miller, age 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

Born on December 20, 1944, David was the cherished son of the late Darrel R. and Carolyn L. (Stone) Miller. He grew up learning the values of hard work and family dedication, bonding closely with his brother, the late Stephan R. Miller.

Following his graduation from Creston High School, David pursued higher education at Davenport University before earning his bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University, a milestone that sparked a lifelong pride and devotion to his alma mater. Professionally, David put his analytical mind and attention to detail to work at Rapistan, where he helped author and create the operations and maintenance manuals for their complex conveyor and material handling systems.

Above all else, David’s true passion was his family. He shared a life of deep love, devotion, and steadfast support with his beloved wife, Sharon J. (Morden) Miller. Together, they built a family grounded in love, encouragement, and shared memories.

A passionate sports fan, David played football and basketball during his high school years and remained an avid follower of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. However, his absolute highest loyalty was reserved for the Ferris State Bulldogs. Beyond televised sports, David's favorite place to be was in the stands cheering on his family; he never missed a single sporting event or band competition for his children or grandchildren, traveling near and far to support them. In his free time, David enjoyed listening to music from the1950s and 60s, and expanding his vast collection of sports memorabilia, and hunting for additions to his cherished Hopalong Cassidy collection.

David will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty, his gentle presence, and the endless support he showed to those he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sharon J. Miller; his children, Darrel D. Miller Jr. and his wife Mary, and Sarah (Miller) Kissel and her husband David; and his cherished grandchildren, Rebecca Wilcox, Alicia Wilcox, Anna Kissel, and Stephen Kissel. Brother-in-law Art Morden & Pat, Sister-in-laws Linda Lytle, Shirley Hazen & Dan, Mildred Christensen & L.J. Along with many nieces and nephews.

We celebrate the life of David Robert Ruppert Jr., affectionately known to many as Bobby, who passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. 

He was born on June 19, 1949, in Leroy, Michigan. Bobby lived a life rich with love, laughter, and dedication to those he cherished most.

Bobby was the devoted partner to Ellen McCracken, with whom he shared a beautiful legacy of children and grandchildren. His heart was the cornerstone of a large family, lovingly guiding his children: David Ruppert III (Donna Ruppert), Jody Raby, Leonard Ruppert (Carrolin Ruppert), Peggy Brooks (Brian Brooks), Jenny Bliss, and Becky Geise (Tom Geise). His legacy extends to his sisters, Marty Jaques (Gary Jaques), Cheryl Lodholtz (Howie Ludholtz), Patricia Stenberg (John Stenberg) and uncle, Dale Ruppert, his 21 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his spirit and love.

Bobby was predeceased by his beloved Ellen McCracken, and his sons Timothy and Christopher Ruppert, his parents David Ruppert Sr. & Shirley (Logan) with whom he is now joyfully reunited.

After graduating from Pine River High School, Bobby dedicated over 25 years to a fulfilling career at Tubelite in Reed City, where his strong work ethic and jovial nature left an indelible mark on colleagues and friends alike. A man of faith, Bobby was an active member of Bethel Church of Reed City, where he found solace and community.

Bobby’s passions lay in the great outdoors, where he spent countless hours hunting and fishing. He had a particular affection for going on drives, visiting with relatives, and enjoying the scenery and camping trips. His laughter was infectious, his sense of humor unmatched, and above all, his love for his family was unwavering.

A funeral service to honor Bobby’s life will be held on July 22, 2026, at the Bethel Church of Reed City at 12:00 P.M., located at 515 W Lincoln Ave, Reed City, MI 49677. 

As we gather to remember Bobby, we celebrate the joy and warmth he brought into our lives.

Dennis Vincent, 64, of Barryton, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. He was born on February 11, 1962, in Clare, the son of Joel and Anna Vincent.

After graduating from high school, Dennis proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he moved to California, where he worked for the federal government maintaining and repairing long-range radar systems for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Dennis was a master gardener who took great pride in his gardens and the beauty he created. He also loved taking on projects, tinkering, and fixing just about anything. Whether it was tools, equipment, or unique gadgets, he enjoyed collecting items that caught his interest and kept everything meticulously organized. There wasn't much Dennis couldn't repair, and he found great satisfaction in putting his skills to work.

After retiring, Dennis returned to Barryton, where he embraced the slower pace of life on his 20-acre property. He enjoyed spending countless hours in his shop, tackling new projects, tending to his property, and enjoying retirement in the community he was proud to call home.

He is survived by his son, Alan (Jessica) Vincent; his siblings, Alan Vincent Sr. and Bridgett Vincent; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, 3:00 P.M. at Flake Cemetery in Barryton, with a celebration of Dennis's life to follow at the Barryton Township Hall.

Daniel T. McHugh Sr., 69, of Morley, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026. He was born on June 16, 1957, in Lakeview, the son of James and Naomi McHugh.

Daniel graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he built a career as a lineman with IBEW Local 876, where he worked faithfully until his retirement.

Daniel enjoyed riding his Harley and took great pride in his work as a lineman. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and were the center of his life.

He is survived by his children, Daniel Jr. (Katie) McHugh and Alanah (Montery) Sterling; grandchildren, Eleanor, Henry, Breanna, Mykal, and Breasia; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Westin, and Zaylah; brothers, James and Eddie; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Debbie; and his brother, Paul.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

He will be laid to rest at Aetna Township Cemetery in Morley.

Edwin Vetter, 62, of Reed City, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was born on August 6, 1963, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John Vetter and Sharon Gensler.

After graduating from high school, Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1981 to 1984. He later earned his associate degree from Baker College.

Ed found his true calling in helping others. He worked as both a caregiver and a maintenance man, always willing to lend a hand, repair whatever needed fixing, and go above and beyond to ensure those in his care were comfortable and well looked after. He later moved to Reed City to help care for his mother, continuing his lifelong dedication to serving others.

When he had time to himself, Ed enjoyed fishing and spending time outdoors, finding peace in nature.

He is survived by his mother, Sharon Clock; father, John (Cindy) Vetter; brother, Bob Vetter; along with several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Edward Clock Jr.; and his grandparents, Edwin and Margaret Gensler and Paul and Emma Vetter.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

He will be laid to rest at Meida Cemetery in Reed City.

Sally Zoyiopoulos, passed away at her home in the wintry woods on December 12, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. In accordance with her wishes, put down your phone, and pay attention. If you are reading this on your phone, do not tell Sally. Ever.

Sally’s ninety-two years were very full and impossible to condense, so here are some highlights.

From a young age, Sally loved all aspects of fishing and was an expert at cleaning fish and eating fish, and she loved fishing with her son best of all, a true Mother’s Day treat. Rivaling her love of fishing was her love of dogs. She loved Irish Setters the best, one in particular, and the other the best she could. In lieu of an Irish Setter, she poured her love into Quinci, who loved Sally right back like only a good dog can.

Sally was bold like no other. She loved swimming and was part of the high school synchronized swimming team which was pretty amazing since Title IX was a long way off. She worked outside the home her entire adult life, at a time when that wasn’t mainstream. She was a fearless traveler, enjoying several excursions with friends and family out West and to Europe. In her eighties, she didn’t hesitate to agree to a 1000-mile road trip in a Volkswagen Beetle of questionable reliability.

Sally was a prolific baker, and despite her children’s best efforts, she took her official recipes with her. If you enjoyed Sally’s delicious baked goods, good luck finding a worthy replacement. She was most famous for her baklava, and she likely made thousands of pies from scratch, including the crusts. She was known for bringing baked goods to meetings, so meetings may be canceled from here on.

Sally was also a passionate fiber artist and crafter, spinning and weaving and knitting and more spinning and more knitting. She was known to travel with her like-minded friends to fiber and craft festivals, and she enjoyed expanding her skill set, even if she had misplaced her glasses beforehand.

Sally was involved in local events, so she probably asked you for a donation of some kind. She loved organizing events and contributing her talents to her community rather than sitting at home. She baked and fundraised and cold-called and cajoled to make things happen for her people in her community.

Sally is survived by her daughter Jamie, her son Jeff and his wife Laurie, her daughter Nicole and her husband Jefferson, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her beloved sisters-in-law, a brother, as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews.

Sally’s family members would like to thank Pastor Josie, Sally’s church family, and her friends for all their support, kindness, and prayers, especially during the last years of Sally’s amazing life. The family also wants to give an extra special thanks to Jennifer who took care of us all.

Christina Falcone, 58, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 17, 2026. She was born on April 24, 1968, in Berwyn, Illinois, the daughter of Richard Conley Sr. and Jean (Hahn) Conley.

Christina was blessed to spend the last ten years of her life with her partner, Steve Hoover. Together they shared countless laughs, unforgettable memories, and the simple joy of each other's company. Their time together was filled with love, companionship, and happiness.

Christina enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved watching British period dramas, adored all things Hello Kitty, and found peace in bird watching. She also enjoyed being pampered, especially having her hair and nails done, and appreciated the moments that made life feel a little more special.

She is survived by her significant other, Steve Hoover; her daughter, Samantha Falcone; along with many loving relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Illinois.

Renee Ann Preston, beloved, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in Evart, Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the age of 66. Renee was born in Flint, MI on April 14, 1960 to Clark and Marcella (Sogge) Flood. As a child, Renee‘s family moved from Flushing to Sears and in 1978 she graduated from Evart High School.  On January 8, 1983 she married Glenn Preston, in Sears, and they made their home on Big Lake where they raised their family, until moving into Evart in 2002.

Renee was a licensed cosmetologist who fine tuned her techniques on her very patient husband. She worked a short time at Chemical Bank in Big Rapids  before getting a job, in the mid to late 90’s, through the Community Action  Agency, as a teacher’s aide. Renee quickly found out that being a preschool teacher was one of the most rewarding jobs she could ever think of. For over ten years she loved those kids and those kids loved her right back. Renee often referred to her time spent teaching as “her favorite years”.  She was also a familiar face at The Corner Store when she was able.

Renee tended to do things her way, was all about the grandbabies, seeing their faces light up when they saw her and spending holidays together. She was known as the “yes” grandma, and with one look, Glenn knew not to disappoint. She had a good sense of humor, fighting spirit and was the good kind of ornery.  When she was able, she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing Uno attack and BINGO. Renee would often bake holiday trays and deliver them to the nurses at the cancer center and the banking staff.

Renee‘s inner strength and perseverance will be carried on in the family who survives her, this includes: her loving husband, Glenn and their children & spouses, Ryan (Rebekah) Preston and Jen (Jeffrey) Krenz; four grandchildren, Andrew and Adaline Preston & Jeffrey Jr. and Quentin Krenz, who will always remember their grandma, Renee, coming out to wave them down the road; and China Rose, their oversized English mastiff fur baby, who was equally spoiled. She’s also survived by half sisters, Anita and Ann Edwards and many aunts, uncles, extended family and friends, including sisters at Heart, Jody Marsh and Debbie Walter.

Renee was proceeded in death by her parents.

Garold M. McGowan, age 75, of Six Lakes, passed away at his home on July 19, 2026. “Gar” as he was known, was born on November 2, 1950, in Lansing, Michigan, to Howard and Zelma (Meirndorf) McGowan. He grew up in Williamston and graduated from Williamston High School. Gar proudly served in the United States Army. He was a true workaholic who spent many years dedicated to his position as a railroad track inspector. Gar was the life of the party and loved bringing people together. He especially loved celebrating the 4th of July with cornhole games and good company. He looked forward to Thursday and Friday night game nights where he shared his love of music, especially country and Elvis Presley. Gar also enjoyed driving his pontoon on the lake. In his younger years, he bowled and fished.

Gar will be deeply missed by his children, Heidi (Shaun) McGowan, and Corey (Sonia) McGowan; three grandsons, Gavin, Corey, and Caleb; his sisters, Dorrine Bach, Connie Cole, and Donna McGowan; companion and friend of many years, Linda Ekins; along with many other long-time friends.

Gar was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Zelma McGowan; his grandson, Garrett McGowan; his brother, Howard McGowan; his sisters, Roberta Hitchcock, Denelda Tanguay, and Dolores Bohneett.

David Thomas Sherman, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and proud Air Force veteran, passed away on July 23, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on November 20, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, David lived his life with unwavering faith, integrity, and a deep commitment to his family and country. He will be eternally remembered by his beloved wife, Sherri, his children and grandchildren and treasured by his family and friends.

Throughout his life, David dedicated himself to hard work, faithfully serving in the manufacturing industry at Steelecase, where he was known for his strong work ethic and reliability. A true family man, he cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren, imparting his wisdom, patience, and love. David took joy in teaching them practical skills—from driving a stick shift to operating tractors and even shooting guns. Together, they created lasting memories while embarking on various woodworking projects and enjoying his extensive collection of toy trucks and trains.

David's spirit was marked by his sense of humor, often illuminating gatherings with playful pranks and jovial laughter. He was generous in heart and deed, always ready to lend a helping hand and share his resources with those in need. His love for his country as an Air Force veteran was a source of pride, and he instilled in others the importance of service, patriotism, and community engagement.

David is survived by: his wife Sherri (Yeasley) Sherman, his daughter Angie (Kevin) Frew and grandsons Elias and Randy, son Matt Sherman and granddaughter Temprance, daughter Katie (John) Hoyle and grandsons Liam and Caleb, brother Pat (Vicki) Sherman, LuAnn (Dan) DeBaar, Robert (Lisetta) Sherman, and sister Lila Snider.

A celebration of David's remarkable life will be held at Lakeview Community Church, where all are invited to join in honoring his legacy. A public viewing will take place on July 27, 2026, beginning at 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Janowicz Family Funeral Home in Lakeview, allowing family and friends to gather together in remembrance and reflection. David's funeral service will follow on July 28, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Lakeview Community Church, offering an opportunity to pay tribute to a man whose heart was as expansive as his love for those around him.

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Breann Brooke Metcalf, age 33, of Edmore, Michigan, who left us far too soon on July 17, 2026. Born on April 16th, 1993, Breann brought an abundance of light, laughter, and love into the lives of everyone she touched.

Above all of her achievements, Breann’s greatest joy, proudest accomplishment, and the absolute center of her world were her three beautiful children: Jayce, Kate, and Jo. Following the devastating loss of her fiancé and the father of her children, Timothy "Tim" Wilson, just one year ago, Breann poured every ounce of her strength, resilience, and boundless love into being both a devoted mother and a protective anchor for her babies. Her unwavering dedication to them over this past year was a testament to her beautiful, fierce heart.

Breann lived life with a vibrant, adventurous spirit, a contagious sense of humor, and a gentle kindness that left a permanent impact on anyone who crossed her path. Whether she was creating everyday magic at home or sharing a laugh with family, nothing made her happier than creating beautiful memories with the people she loved. We take profound comfort in knowing that she is now peacefully reunited in eternity with her soulmate, Tim.

Breann leaves behind a legacy of deep love. She is survived by her three cherished children, Jayce, Kate, and Jo; her loving siblings, Zackery (Heather), Megen (Adam), and Levi (Sadie); and a wide, dedicated circle of friends who will surround her children with continuous protection and love. She was preceded in death by her beloved fiancé, Timothy G. Wilson and father, Ricky Metcalf. A special thanks to Sara Chapman who was there along her side throughout her last days, supporting Bre and her family.

A Celebration of Life honoring Breann’s vibrant spirit will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the garden at Camille's Prime, located at 506 W. Broadway Street, Mt. Pleasant, MI.

Gary William Baker, age 83, of Canadian Lakes, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026.
Born on July 15, 1943, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Gary was the son of Andrew and Eileen Baker. He was a devoted husband, loving stepfather, proud papa, cherished brother, uncle, and a dear friend to many. Gary lived a life filled with adventure, accomplishment, generosity, and an unwavering love for family.
Raised in Royal Oak, Gary excelled as a student-athlete, earning varsity letters in both basketball and track while attending Dondero High School. He continued his basketball career at Central Michigan University before answering the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. During his honorable service, Gary was stationed in Germany, where he purchased a Volkswagen and spent his leave traveling throughout Europe, beginning a lifelong passion for exploring the world.
Upon returning home to Michigan, Gary built an impressive career as an automotive design engineer. His dedication, innovation, and leadership led him to become Vice President of Autodynamics Corporation and later Chief Executive Officer of Porsche Delta Engineering. Throughout his professional career, Gary earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the automotive industry.
It was during those years that Gary met the love of his life, Kathleen “Kitty” Baker. Together they shared nearly 30 wonderful years of marriage, creating homes filled with laughter, hospitality, and treasured memories in both Canadian Lakes, Michigan, and Fairfield Glades, Tennessee. Whether hosting family and friends or gathering everyone together for celebrations, Gary found great joy in bringing people together.
A gifted athlete throughout his life, Gary remained an avid sports fan, car enthusiast, and passionate golfer. His love of travel and golf took him to many remarkable destinations, including St. Andrews in Scotland, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach—where he proudly celebrated a hole-in-one—and the Olympic Games in Greece. Gary and Kitty also enjoyed traveling throughout Europe with her daughter, Kristen.
Gary’s greatest joy, however, was being “Papa.” He delighted in sharing his passions with his grandchildren, Emma and Ethan, arranging golf lessons for them in Canadian Lakes, taking them on rock-hunting adventures, giving them golf cart driving lessons, and proudly cheering them on as their biggest fan at countless competitions. His love, encouragement, and gentle guidance created memories they will carry with them forever.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Eileen Baker, and his brother, Thomas Baker.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Kathleen “Kitty” Baker; his stepdaughter, Kristin Bowler, and step son-in-law, Bill Bowler; his beloved grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Bowler; his brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Lynn Baker; his sisters and brother-in-law, Patricia Livy and Robert and Diane Webster; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and countless dear friends.

David Wayne Crispen, age 70, of Blanchard, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, with his dear friend, Sam, by his side.

David was born on December 17, 1955, to Donald and Daisy Crispen. He lived life on his own terms and found joy in the things he loved most. Whether he was out fishing, spending time on the water boating, riding his quads, or working on them in the garage, David was happiest when he was outdoors or tinkering with something he enjoyed.

A true fan of classic rock, David could never get enough of his favorite music. Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall and Heart’s Barracuda were among his favorite songs and could often be heard playing wherever he was. He was also a devoted WWF wrestling fan and rarely missed the opportunity to watch his favorite matches.

More than anything, David will be remembered as a loyal friend whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those who knew him. He leaves behind memories that will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have shared in his life.

David is survived by his special friend, Samantha Rafferty, and her children, Ashley, Caleb, Hannah, Emily, and Dylan, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

Unified in our love for her, we, her sons and daughters, announce that Darlene Dawn Hahn broke free from her earthly bonds on Sunday, July 19, 2026, joining the love of her life, Charles Kenneth “Ken,” at the table of their heavenly Creator.

Darlene was generous with her love, and her devotion to family and faith touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She was fearless in the face of any challenge, whether it involved defending her beliefs or loved ones, confronting difficulties with her health, or finding within herself the capacity to forgive.

One of Mom’s proudest achievements grew from her own suffering and became a deeply meaningful personal ministry. She spent countless evenings creating and leading support groups for those living with panic and anxiety, with Dad faithfully at her side. Together, they often traveled well beyond their hometown each week. Her gentle kindness and ability to listen with understanding helped many people find freedom from burdens that might otherwise have stolen their joy—and, in some instances, their lives.

Darlene was born on August 12, 1942, to Conrad and Beatrice Johnson in Big Rapids. She graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1960 and married Ken Hahn on October 21, 1961. Ken and Darlene moved a house from the campus of Ferris State to its current location on Woodward Avenue, where they made it a home and raised their family.

Darlene never “settled” for the life of a homemaker. She worked outside the home throughout her life, but her greatest accomplishment was the loving home she created for her children, their friends, and countless others who experienced her nurturing love. Even after her children had grown and moved away, her home and heart remained open to them.

In her later years, Darlene continued nurturing her children through regular visits to their often-distant homes in Maine, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Ohio, Illinois, and Minnesota. She and Ken also cherished the second family that blossomed around them during their seasonal visits to Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her mother, Beatrice; her father, Conrad; her stepfather, Lester; her beloved baby sister, Connie; and her treasured nephew, Kurt.

She is survived by siblings, Darryl, Karl, Cheri, and Kerry; her children, Rick (Andrea) Hahn of Willshire, Ohio; Randy (Amanda) Hahn of Big Rapids, Michigan; Tim (Karen) Hahn of Big Rapids, Michigan; and Dawn (Thomas) Oldenburg of Bridgman, Michigan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Tasha, H’anna, Tommy, and Lily; her great-grandchildren, Payson, Max, and Alex; her very special friends, Sharon and Joe, Sandy, Tim, Mae, Vicky, Deb, and Earl; the Coffee Group; and her much-adored animal companions, Finn and Miss Kitty.

Mom, your fight—fortified by faith, love, and kindness—inspires all of us to be better in your memory. Your beautiful legacy is secure.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Big Rapids. Darlene's family will greet friends from 5-7:30 p.m., Friday, July 24th at the church and beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

June Bernice (Ensing) Burt, age 95, passed away on July 10th, 2026, at Lakeview Terrace Assisted Living in Lakeview. She was the daughter of William and Winifred (Timmer) Ensing. She was born in Grand Rapids on October 20, 1930.

June graduated from Edmore High School in 1948. After earning a teacher's degree from Central Michigan, she taught for a few years in area country schools. She married the love of her life, (James) Frank Burt on June 21, 1950. They worked side by side at Burt's Fine Foods while raising their two children. In 1985 they retired and spent their winters in Florida. June was a member of the Edmore Faith United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, played the piano and organ, and helped with church activities. She was also a member of the United Women in Faith.

June is preceded in death by her husband Frank, her son Jim, her brothers and their wives: Jason and Pat Ensing, Willard and MaryAnn Ensing, and Roger Ensing.

June is survived by her daughter Jean (Tony) Croll; daughter-in-law Deb Burt; grandchildren: Michael (Missy) Croll, Melissa (Pat) Yagiela, and Matthew (Nicole) Croll, and April and Alan Burt; six great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joan Rasmussen; several nieces and nephews; and her church family, along with friends at Lakeview Terrace.

Funeral services for June will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, beginning at 11 AM at Edmore Faith United Methodist Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service. There will be a Iuncheon served after the service. Burial will be in Vinewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.

Hunter Christopher Torpey of Winn, MI. Unexpectedly passed July 10, 2026, at the age of 27. 
He was born April 19,1999 the son of Chris and Renee Torpey.

Hunter graduated from Shepherd High School in 2017. After graduating he applied and was accepted into Local 324 Operating Engineers. Became a Crane operator/AD (Assembly/Disassembly) of cranes, and worked for White Construction. Hunter had moved through the ranks with hard work and dedication. Hunter was incredibly involved in his community. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion post 240 of Blanchard. Worked the voting poles for Fremont TWP as a pole inspector. He was on the Fremont TWP Review Board. 

Hunter enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and golfing. Spending time with all his buddies and the ladies. Hunter loved this country as he was very Patriotic. Hunter had participated with the annual Chicken BBQ that the American Legion put on during Blanchard Days for at least 17 years. He considered it a National Holiday for him. Hunter always lit up a room when he walked in. Hunter was usually the life of the party dancing wherever and with whomever would. He was kind to everyone and would do anything for anyone. Hunter was an Ordained Minister and performed a few weddings for his friends.

He is survived by his parents: Chris and Renee Torpey, Fiancé Olivia Wilson and unborn daughter, Sister Tricia Hammis, Brother Alex (Wendy) Torpey, Nephews Aris Torpey, Christian Hammis, Niece Emma Hammis. Several Aunts and Uncles, many cousins and extended family and friends. Adopted grandparents Jim and Janitha Bardos.

He was predeceased by paternal grandparents Hilton and Helen Torpey. Maternal grandparents Wallace Reichert, Connie (Carl) McQueen. Cousins Matt Reichert, Josh Gatehouse, Connor Talbert, Thomas Torpey. Uncle Joe Burch II.

Any of Hunter's friends/family that would put an American Flag flying from their vehicle on the way to the service would be appreciated as he loved our great American Flag. Please dress casually for the service.

David Lee Pettit, 69, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 16, 2026, at his home.

He was born February 7, 1957, in Big Rapids, the son of Harold Sr. and Florence (Thomas) Pettit.

David is survived by his brothers, Harold Jr. (Sue) Pettit and Joseph (Marty) Benakovich; sister Peggy (Michael) Secory; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A private graveside service will be held, where David will be laid to rest next to his parents in Highland View Cemetery. Care and arrangements are entrusted to Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids.

Dorothy Ann Buikema, 85 of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026.
She was born July 2, 1941.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, David (Michelle) and Brian (Sherry) Buikema; grandchildren, Logan and Savannah Buikema; brother, Russell Cottrell; sister-in-law, Linda; niece, Heather Kasamauski; nephew, Scott Cottrell; her dear friend, Kristina Schnick; and many cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernard Buikema; her parents, Clifford and Inez; brothers, Bill and Bob; and sister, Margaret.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice of Michigan and the caring staff at Evergreen Terrace Assisted Living for the compassionate care and kindness they provided.

Terry Lee Parker, 47, of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital.

Terry was born on April 20, 1979, in Big Rapids, the son of John and Wanda (Tucker) Parker.

Terry had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed cutting firewood with his dad. He spent several years working in construction alongside his brother. He loved playing softball with his family, and everyone who knew him affectionately knew him as “T-Top.”

One of Terry’s favorite pastimes was taking weekly thrifting trips with his mom. He also found great joy in gardening, with onions and strawberries being among his favorite things to grow. Terry was known for his cheerful spirit, kind heart, and genuine love for everyone he met. Family was always at the center of his life, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved. He was well known for eating homemade candy and cookies. Above all else, Terry adored his cats and cherished the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his loving parents, John and Wanda Parker of Stanwood; his siblings, Wannetta Little of Stanwood, John Parker Jr. (Marcie Stange) of Kentucky, and Tracey (Brian) Guthrie of Stanwood; his special uncles, Donny (Timmer) Parker, and Bob (Mary) Parker; his special aunts, Mona Lile, Carol (Lonnie) Carr, and Johnna (Harold) Buchanan; as well as many other aunts and uncles, several nieces and nephews, one great-nephew, and many extended family members and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Allen and Freda Parker, Maynard Tucker,  and Gordon and Twilla Matthes; his brother-in-law, Ron Little; Cinda (Bill) Brocker; and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services celebrating Terry’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids. His family will greet friends from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on Monday, July 20th, at the funeral home, and again on Tuesday beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Terry will be laid to rest in Stanwood Cemetery.

Terry will be remembered for his infectious smile, generous heart, unwavering love for his family, and the kindness he shared so freely with everyone whose lives he touched.
